College Preparation and Visits

  • High School Checklist:
    • Great for a step-by-step instruction for college

  • College Visits:
    • High school is the perfect time to take college tours, because this will give you an idea of which college(s) you would like to attend to after high school. Some students like to use their family vacation as a great opportunity to go visit a college or a university.
    • The State of Texas allows Salado High School's Juniors and Seniors to take two college days during school.
      • Only with a complete high school form a week ahead of the visit (you can get them from Mrs. Peralta) and a letter from the college saying you visited them.

 Financial Aid Help     

  • FAFSA:
    • Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a great way to get money for college. Federal student aid comes from the federal government - specifically, the U.S. Department of Education. It's money that helps a student pay for higher education expenses (i.e., college, career school, or graduate school expenses).
    • This will help cover such expenses as tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. Aid also can help pay for a computer and for dependent care.
    • Applying for the federal student aid is easy.

        • 1. Social Security Number (Student and Parents)
        • 2. Driver's License (Student, if any)
        • 3. W-2 Form (Students and Parents)
        • 4. Federal Income Tax Return (Student and Parents)

        • 6. Current Bank Statement (Student and Parents)
        • 7. Business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bonds, and other investment records (Student and Parents)
        • 8. Alien Registration or permanent resident card (Student, if not a U.S. citizen)

  • Scholarships:
    • Scholarships are another way to help cover college tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies.
    • There are millions of scholarships out in the world, you could search for some on the internet, ask your high school counselor, talk to people in your community, and many more different ways to get a scholarship.

SAT, ACT, and ASVAB

  • PSAT:
    • The Practice SAT will help prepare you for the real SAT Test.
    • Get insights into your strengths and weaknesses.

  • ACT:
    • ACT helps students achieve education and workplace success, ACT promotes effective education and workforce policy solutions at the national, state, and local levels.

    • The ASVAB is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilites and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military.
